In a significant victory for the Punjab Police, a second major attack by terrorists on the Lakhani checkpost along the Punjab-Khyber Pakhtunkhwa border has been thwarted this week.
According to a Punjab Police spokesperson, 15 to 20 terrorists launched a surprise attack on the border checkpoint during the pre-dawn hours of sehri.
The terrorists, attacking in small groups from all four directions, used rocket launchers and heavy weaponry.
However, the alert police personnel, utilizing thermal imaging cameras, detected the terrorists from a distance. A swift and decisive response, involving machine guns and mortar fire, forced the terrorists to retreat before they could breach the checkpoint.
The spokesperson reported that the terrorists suffered significant casualties as a result of the effective counter-offensive. This marks the second foiled attack in a week at the same location, after a similar one on six days ago.
The operation was commanded by RPO Dera Ghazi Khan, Captain (Retd.) Sajjad Hassan Khan, with backup teams from the Quick Response Force under the command of DPO Dera Ghazi Khan Syed Ali arriving swiftly on the scene.
Inspector General of Punjab Police, Dr Usman Anwar, commended the bravery and alertness of the officers involved, highlighting that this was the 19th such attack foiled by Punjab Police. He reiterated the police’s commitment to defeating terrorists and ensuring the safety and security of the public. Anwar also emphasized that the provision of state-of-the-art weaponry to border checkpoints along the Punjab-KP border has been instrumental in thwarting these attacks.
RPO Dera Ghazi Khan further stated that joint search operations with other agencies continue in the border regions of Punjab and Khyber Pakhtunkhwa. The alertness of the personnel, he added, prevented the terrorists from achieving their objectives.
