Wana tribe declares crackdown on criminals amidst rising insecurity

The Toji Khel tribe in Wana, the headquarters of South Waziristan Lower, has announced a harsh crackdown on criminal elements in response to escalating insecurity. A large tribal jirga held in Kari Kot brought together representatives from all three sub-tribes, religious scholars, elders, and youth. The jirga was led by Malik Jameel Khan and Faqir Qari Shabir Ahmed Khan.

The jirga issued a three-point agreement aimed at eliminating extortion, targeted killings, and other illegal activities. Anyone violating the agreement will face severe tribal penalties, including the destruction of their homes, expulsion from the area, and the confiscation of their property.

The statement emphasized that no illegal activity will be tolerated within the tribe’s territorial boundaries, which extend from Angoor Ada border to Machan Baba Ziyarat. The entire tribe is united in enforcing this agreement.

Addressing the jirga, Malik Jameel Khan appealed to active members of the banned Tehrik-i-Taliban Pakistan (TTP) and Tehrik-i-Taliban Ghazi (TTG) to return to their tribes and lead respectable lives, or to leave Wana entirely to prevent further displacement of the local population.

The jirga also urged other tribes in the Ahmadzai Wazir area to control their own criminal elements to restore peace and security across the region.
