US Congress delegation commends Pakistan Army’s counter-terrorism efforts

A high-level delegation from the United States Congress met with Pakistan’s Chief of Army Staff (COAS), General Syed Asim Munir on Sunday, where they praised Pakistan Army’s efforts to fight terorrorism. 

The delegation, led by Congressman Jack Bergman and including Congressmen Thomas Souzzi and Jonathan Jackson, engaged in wide-ranging discussions covering several areas of mutual interest.

According to the Inter-Services Public Relations, the primary focus of the meeting was regional security and defence cooperation. Both sides emphasized the significance of continued engagement built on mutual respect, shared values, and converging strategic interests.

The US lawmakers praised the Pakistan Armed Forces for their crucial role in counterterrorism efforts and recognized Pakistan’s significant contributions to regional peace and stability. According to the ISPR, they also expressed strong admiration for Pakistan’s resilience and the strategic potential of its people.

“Underscoring their respect for Pakistan’s sovereignty, the U.S. Congressional delegation conveyed a strong commitment to advancing broad-based bilateral cooperation, particularly in the domains of security, trade, investment, and economic development,” ISPR added.

General Munir expressed gratitude for the delegation’s visit and reiterated Pakistan’s desire to strengthen and diversify its long-standing partnership with the United States. He emphasized a commitment to a mutually beneficial relationship that respects each nation’s national interests.

Significantly, the meeting also resulted in the signing of Memoranda of Understanding (MoUs) focused on enhancing training collaboration in the field of Information Technology.

Separately, the delegation met with Interior Minister Mohsin Naqvi, Planning Minister Ahsan Iqbal and Foreign Secretary Amna Baloch. The delegation will also visit Azad Kashmir.
