State Minister for Interior Talal Chaudhry said on Wednesday that the outlawed Tehreek-e-Taliban Pakistan is operating WhatsApp channels to spread its ‘hateful’ narratives and called on the company to block the accounts.

In a statement on X, Chaudhry said that the TTP is sending bulk messages and operating these channels to glorify terror activities.

“TTP (UN & US designated terrorist organisation) is operating its WhatsApp channels and sending Bulk WhatsApps messages to proliferate its violent / hateful ideology, to spread its harmful narratives, and for glorification of its terror activities,” Chaudhry wrote on X. He also showed attached a screenshot of the WhatsApp channel in his post.

“Pakistan has zero tolerance for these terror groups and is offering tremendous sacrifices to ensure global peace. We request the international community and @WhatsApp to cooperate to help us fight this menace. These accounts must be blocked and necessary algorithms created to auto-detect and auto-suspend such handles / numbers,” he added.

The TTP was outlawed by Pakistan in 2008, designated as a terrorist group in 2010 and had sanctions imposed on it by the UN in 2011.

Pakistan launched large-scale operations against the group in 2014 and continues to target the group with intelligence-based operations. Pakistan has also accused Afghanistan of providing safe havens to the TTP and has labelled the group as Fitna Al-Khwarij since 2024.
