The banned Tehreek-e-Taliban Pakistan has claimed responsibility for the murder of a peace committee member in Khyber Pakhtunkhwa’s Dera Ismail Khan district.
The peace committee member, identified as Jamal, had been an outspoken figure, calling for an end to TTP’s activities in the area.
The banned TTP has claimed that its operations are limited to government and security targets. However, incidents such as these have belied TTP’s claims.
The government has labelled the banned organization as Fitna Al-Khwarij since last year. The government said that the change was made as the group is using the name of religion to carry out terrorist activities.
Analysts say that the killing of civilians is used by the banned organization as a tactic used to instill fear into the public and stifle public resistance.
