A fierce gun battle erupted between police and terrorists in Abbasa Khattak, at the border between Karak and Lakki Marwat in Khyber Pakhtunkhwa, lasting for approximately one hour.
The exchange of fire resulted in one terrorist being killed and one police officer sustaining serious injuries.
The injured police officer has been transported to Peshawar for medical treatment. Following the shootout, the militants escaped the scene.
Police are currently investigating the incident and pursuing the fleeing militants.
A few days ago in Lakki Marwat, police found and defused an improvised explosive device (IED) that had been placed under a road. The bombs used a total of 45 kilograms of explosives and were reportedly set up to target law enforcement agencies.
Terrorist groups in KP have claimed in recent months that their targets will be limited to law enforcement officials and security officials. The move is aimed at dampening the morale of the forces fighting terrorism. Since the announcement of this plan, there has been a noticeable increase in attacks against security officials, even while they are not on duty.
However, contrary to claims made by groups such as the Tehreek-e-Taliban Pakistan, several civilians continue to lose their lives in violent incidents.
The army has responded by hitting terrorist hideouts in intelligence-based operations instead of larger operations that were carried out in the province. In 2024 alone, security forces conducted almost 60,000 IBOs, killing 925 terrorists.
