A report released by the Pakistan Institute for Conflict and Security Studies (PICSS), an Islamabad-based think tank, reveals a shocking 74% increase in militant attacks across Pakistan in August 2025 compared to July. August 2025 marks the deadliest month in over a decade.

The report details that in July 2025, there were 82 militant attacks nationwide, resulting in 101 deaths and 150 injuries. The fatalities included 47 civilians and 36 security personnel.

However, August witnessed a drastic escalation, with 143 recorded militant attacks – the highest monthly figure since February 2014. These attacks claimed 194 lives, including 73 security personnel and 62 civilians, and left 231 injured.

The situation in Khyber Pakhtunkhwa is particularly alarming, with a 200% increase in militant attacks, rising from 17 in July to 51 in August, resulting in 74 deaths. Balochistan also saw a significant number of attacks, with 28 incidents resulting in 52 fatalities. In response to these attacks, security forces reported eliminating at least 100 militants and apprehending 31.

This surge in terrorist activity reflects the breakdown of a ceasefire between the Tehrik-i-Taliban Pakistan (TTP) and the government, which ended in November 2022. The government has implemented several counter-terrorism measures, including new anti-terrorism laws and the enforcement of Section 144 in Balochistan.
