Significant progress made in fight against terror, Dar tells Pak businessmen in US

Deputy Prime Minister and Foreign Minister Senator Muhammad Ishaq Dar addressed a gathering of the Pakistani diaspora in New York on Monday, focusing on the nation’s strides in counter-terrorism efforts alongside economic advancements.

The address, which took place during a visit that includes participation in a high-level UN Security Council event and briefings to OIC Ambassadors, emphasized Pakistan’s commitment to combating terrorism and creating a stable investment climate.

Senator Dar highlighted significant progress in counter-terrorism initiatives. He linked this progress to the creation of a more secure and business-friendly environment, pointing to growth in remittances, exports, and overall economic performance as evidence of Pakistan’s ongoing reforms.

The Foreign Minister detailed several economic initiatives aimed at bolstering the nation’s economy and attracting foreign investment. He specifically mentioned the Pakistan Single Window, a digital platform designed to streamline trade and foster regional economic integration, and the Special Investment Facilitation Council (SIFC) as a key mechanism for promoting investment and security.

The event, attended by Pakistan’s Permanent Representative to the UN, Ambassador Munir Akram; Additional Permanent Representative, Ambassador Asim Iftikhar; Ambassador to the US, Rizwan Saeed Sheikh; and Consul General in New York, Aamer Ahmed Atozai, also served as a platform for interaction between Senator Dar and the Pakistani community.

The Foreign Minister acknowledged the crucial role of overseas Pakistanis in national development, encouraging their continued contribution to the country’s economic growth and international standing. He assured the community of the government’s dedication to addressing their concerns and fostering greater engagement in Pakistan’s development initiatives. The meeting concluded with a question-and-answer session.

The UNSC meeting titled “Practicing Multilateralism: Reforming and Improving Global Governance” has been convened by China which currently holds the rotating presidency of the Council. The meeting will be chaired by Chinese Foreign Minister Wang Yi and will take place on Tuesday.

According to a statement from the Foreign Office, Dar will “reaffirm Pakistan’s strong commitment to the principles of multilateralism and the central role of the United Nations in promoting international peace, security, and sustainable development.”
