Two Frontier Corps (FC) personnel were martyred and two others wounded in a cross-border shelling attack originating from Afghanistan, according to authorities.

The incident occurred overnight in the Khwezai and Baizai areas of Mohmand district. Firing began on Tuesday evening, and continued for a long time. After a pause, firing resumed on Wednesday again.

According to police, eight shells were fired from across the border, impacting the Pakistani side. Pakistani security forces responded with retaliatory fire.

The injured FC personnel are receiving medical attention.

In January this year, security forces killed six terrorists as they tried to infiltrate Pakistan from Afghanistan. The terrorists were killed in Sambaza, in Balochistan’s Zhob district.

In the same month, Pakistani forces intercepted a massive cache of weapons entering Pakistan from Afghanistan at the Ghulam Khan border terminal. The weapons were concealed in hidden compartments within the truck’s driver’s cabin.

Although Pakistan maintains a diplomatic presence in Afghanistan, it has not officially recognised the Afghan Interim Government formed by the Taliban after the withdrawal of the United States forces in 2021 after two decades of war.
