Prime Minister Muhammad Shehbaz Sharif has called on US President Donald Trump to facilitate a comprehensive dialogue between Pakistan and India, praising Trump’s role in securing a recent ceasefire following a four-day military confrontation.
Speaking at a ceremony marking the 249th anniversary of US Independence Day on June 4, 2025, Shehbaz described Trump as a “man for peace” and credited him with decisively ending the conflict.
The Prime Minister asserted that the conflict, which saw Pakistan shoot down six Indian fighter jets in self-defense following an alleged Indian aggression on May 6-7 resulting in the deaths of 33 Pakistani civilians, revealed the “Pahalgam incident” to be a false-flag operation.
He highlighted Pakistan’s offer for an impartial international investigation into the incident, which he said was met with aggression from India. Shehbaz emphasized that India should have provided concrete evidence to substantiate its claims.
While expressing gratitude for the ceasefire, Shehbaz also underscored the need for a broader dialogue, suggesting that Trump’s involvement could be instrumental in achieving lasting peace between the two nuclear-armed neighbours. He further stated that the bilateral ties between the US and Pakistan were entering into renewed friendship, and the close contacts were being revived.
