The Ministry of Foreign Affairs confirmed on Thursday that ISKP terrorist Sharifullah was arrested and handed over to United States pursuant to a United Nations Security Council resolution.

Speaking at a routine press briefing in Islamabad on Thursday, MoFA Spokesman Ambassador Shafqat Ali Khan said that Pakistan is a victim of terrorism and has made significant efforts to combat it.

“Pakistani law enforcement agencies’ efforts against terrorists including ISKP have resulted in significant successes,” Khan said.

He then added that Pakistan has handed over Sharifullah to the US as required under a UNSC resolution.

“Pursuant to UN Security Council Resolutions 1267 and 1373, Pakistan collaborated with the US and handed over Sharifullah,” he said.

However, Khan added that the foreign ministry does not comment on specifics of such an operation. He went on to say that operations of this sort prove Pakistan’s commitment to the fight against terror.

“These operations manifest that Pakistan has a policy of zero tolerance against terrorism,” he said.

Responding to a statement by Afghan government spokesman Zabihullah Mujahid alleging terrorist training centres in Pakistan, Khan said that such claims were completely unfounded.

He called the statement a “a sad attempt to deflect the realities which are visible in Afghanistan in terms of providing sanctuaries to the terrorist elements.”

On Torkham, the spokesman said that the issue remains unresolved and that Pakistan has shown restraint despite ‘illegal and unilateral’ actions and provocations by the Afghan side.

He added that creating a situation where the border had to be closed is not a sensible thing to do in context of the economic conditions in Pakistan and called upon Afghanistan to resolve the issue through peaceful means.
