Pakistani security forces killed an Afghan national during an operation in North Waziristan on February 6, the Inter-Services Public Relations (ISPR) announced today.

The ISPR identified the deceased as Luqman Khan, also known as Nusrat, a resident of Spera District, Khost Province, Afghanistan.  The statement said Khan was involved in terrorist activities within Pakistan and was killed in the Datta Khel area of North Waziristan.

The Pakistani military is contacting the interim Afghan government to arrange for the transfer of Khan’s body.  The ISPR emphasized that this incident highlights the continued involvement of Afghan nationals in terrorist activities within Pakistan and urged the Afghan government to prevent the use of Afghan territory for attacks against Pakistan.

This is not the first time an Afghan national has been killed during a counter-terrorism operation in Pakistani territory. On January 31, forces killed an Afghan national identified as Badruddin aka Yusuf in Dera Ismail Khan, who was the son of the deputy governor of Afghanistan’s Badghis province.

Afghan authorities had initially refused to take body. However, the Foreign Office confirmed on February 6, that the body had been handed over at Angoor Adda.
