Following an attack on a Sui Northern Gas Pipelines Limited (SNGPL) team near Kot Lalu in the Daraban area of Dera Ismail Khan district, Khyber Pakhtunkhwa, security forces conducted a major operation, killing at least eight suspected terrorists. The operation took place on Monday and was apparently a response to the attack on the SNGPL team, which also reportedly resulted in casualties among security personnel.
According to security sources, based on intelligence reports, security forces launched an offensive operation after locating the terrorists in a nearby forest, resulting in the deaths of the eight suspects. Following the operation, the forces cordoned off the area and began a large-scale search and clearance operation in the surrounding vicinity. Additional reinforcements were dispatched to pursue fleeing suspects and secure the site. Officials told journalists that the militants killed were allegedly part of a cell planning a direct attack on the pipeline project. Their goal was to sabotage this project of national importance, which is intended to provide energy, employment, and improved services to the people of Khyber Pakhtunkhwa.
Two Terrorists Killed in Swabi Encounter
Separately, two more militants were killed late Monday night in a joint operation by the Counter Terrorism Department (CTD) Mardan and the Swabi District Police. District Police Officer (DPO) Ziauddin Ahmad provided this information to the media. This incident occurred just three days after unknown individuals threw a hand grenade at the Kalabat police check post, resulting in the martyrdom of a constable.
According to a separate press release, the CTD and Swabi Police were engaged in an intelligence-based operation in the hilly village of Mani when four alleged militants on two motorcycles opened fire on the law enforcement personnel. DPO Ahmad stated that the CTD operation party retaliated effectively, resulting in the terrorists being killed on the spot, while their two accomplices fled under the cover of darkness.
A search and strike operation was immediately initiated in the area following the incident. The slain individuals were allegedly affiliated with the TTP Tayyab Akbar Group and were wanted in multiple cases, including attacks on the police.
Police Repel Attack on Bannu Station, Two Kidnapped Officers Released
Police successfully thwarted an attack on a police station in the Baka Khel area of Bannu late Sunday night. According to a police official, a group of militants attacked the station with light and heavy weapons, attempting to breach the building.
Police reported that the officers stationed there were fully alert because they had detected the terrorists’ movements using thermal vision cameras. Law enforcement personnel launched a strong counter-attack, forcing the assailants to flee.
Local residents, upon hearing news of the attack, also reportedly emerged from their homes armed with weapons to assist the police in their operation against the terrorists. The police confirmed that all officers remained safe during the incident.
Meanwhile, on Monday, two police officers who had been kidnapped from Peoples Bazaar in Bannu were released by their captors. A police official informed the media that the two officers, identified as Nahiullah and Eid Muhammad, were abducted by unidentified armed men while they were returning to their duty station after performing duties with polio teams.
