A terrorist attack on the Sheikha Fatima bint Mubarak Model Hospital in Sholam, located in Birmal Tehsil of Lower South Waziristan, Khyber Pakhtunkhwa, was foiled due to the timely action of security forces. According to official sources, Frontier Corps (FC) and police personnel jointly launched a response and forced the attackers to retreat.

According to details, the terrorists attempted to attack the hospital under the cover of darkness and exchanged fire using sophisticated weapons. Eyewitnesses said the attackers were equipped with modern automatic guns and were advancing toward the hospital.

Sources also revealed that the terrorists were carrying a drone camera, which was likely being used for surveillance. However, FC and police officials bravely countered the attack, compelling the assailants to flee.

During the exchange of fire, one police officer sustained minor injuries and was given immediate medical treatment. Security in the area has since been further tightened. Reports have also emerged of two civilians being wounded, but officials have not yet confirmed this.

Local Reaction and Difficulties

Residents strongly condemned the attack on the hospital and demanded strict action against the perpetrators. Due to security concerns, several local routes have been closed, causing significant difficulties for the public.

The Sheikha Fatima bint Mubarak Model Hospital is a 40-bed facility built in 2015 with support from the United Arab Emirates. Located along the Pak-Afghan highway in Sholam, the hospital is currently operated through a public-private partnership under the provincial government. Both local residents and security forces have described attacks on healthcare centres as crimes against humanity.
