Saudi Arabia’s Ambassador to Pakistan Nawaf bin Saeed Al-Maliky met with Prime Minister Muhammad Shehbaz Sharif on Friday to discuss the escalating tensions in South Asia following the Pahalgam incident.
According to a statement from the Prime Minister’s Office, PM Shehbaz conveyed warm wishes to King Salman bin Abdulaziz Al-Saud and Crown Prince Mohammad bin Salman bin Abdulaziz Al-Saud, expressing gratitude for Saudi Arabia’s consistent support of Pakistan. He then briefed the ambassador on Pakistan’s perspective on the recent events.
Shehbaz strongly condemned terrorism in all its forms, emphasizing Pakistan’s significant sacrifices in counter-terrorism efforts, not only for its own security but for global security as well. He categorically rejected India’s accusations linking Pakistan to the Pahalgam attack, citing a lack of evidence, and reiterated his call for a transparent and neutral international investigation.
According to the statement, the PM highlighted Pakistan’s commitment to building upon its economic progress over the past fifteen months, achieved with the support of friendly nations including Saudi Arabia. He asserted that it would be illogical for Pakistan to jeopardize this progress through irresponsible actions.
He appealed to Saudi Arabia and other friendly countries to urge India to de-escalate the situation and reduce tensions, reaffirming Pakistan’s dedication to peace and stability in South Asia.
In response, the Saudi Ambassador expressed appreciation for the Prime Minister’s insights and reiterated Saudi Arabia’s commitment to working collaboratively with Pakistan to foster peace and security in the region.
