Russian forces kill alleged ISKP terrorist in Moscow, foiling attack plans

Russia’s Federal Security Service (FSB) announced today the killing of a suspect allegedly planning terrorist attacks targeting the Moscow Metro bus station and a Jewish religious institution.

The suspect, whose identity has not been publicly released, was reportedly linked to the Islamic State Khorasan Province (ISKP) and planned to flee to Afghanistan after carrying out the attacks to join the group.

According to the FSB, an attempt to apprehend the suspect resulted in a confrontation, leading to his death.

During a subsequent search, authorities recovered a booklet detailing remote detonation methods and the use of mobile phones as triggers.

The booklet was linked to the pro-IS Al-Saqri Foundation, a group known for its bomb-making manuals.

ISKP has rapidly emerged as a threat in Afghanistan, particularly in the countries Northern Provinces. Just this year, ISKP targeted a Kabul Bank branch killing 21 people as well as an attack on the office of the Afghan Ministry of Urban Development and Housing.

The Taliban government is continuing to pour resources into the fight against ISKP. As US President Donald Trump called for weapons left behind in the 2021 withdrawal, Taliban countered that more weapons were needed to fight the ISKP.
