A roadside explosion in Balochistan’s Harnai killed at least 10 labourers and injured six others on Friday.

The incident occurred in the Coal Mines Area PMDC 94 in the Shahrag area of Harnai when a pick-up truck carrying coal mine workers was rocked by an explosion.

According to local levies officials, an improvised explosive device had been planted on the road where the vehicle was set to pass. The vehicle was carrying a total of 17 labourers, according to Harnai DC Hazrat Wali Agha

The dead and injured were shifted to Shahrag Basic Health Unit. Most of the dead belong to Swat and Shangla in Khyber Pakhtunkhwa, according to authorities.

No one has claimed responsibility for the attack so far. Chief Minister Balochistan Sarfaraz Bugti has condemned the attack and an investigation has been launched.

This is not the first time an explosion has killed coal mine workers in Balochistan. In October last year, at least 20 coal miners were killed in an attack by armed assailants in Dukki. The assailants had destroyed mining machinery in the attack as well.
