Leading religious scholars and Sufi leaders have issued a strong condemnation of unlawful killings and rebellion, emphasizing that Islam is a religion of peace and its teachings are diametrically opposed to extremism and terrorism. In a series of statements, the scholars unequivocally declared that the unlawful killing of a single innocent person is tantamount to the killing of all of humanity.
Mufti Tauheed Jan, a prominent religious scholar, stated in a video message that Islam strictly forbids acts of sedition and rebellion against the state. He urged citizens to cooperate with the government for the sake of national peace and prosperity, highlighting this as a national and Islamic duty.
Mufti Abdul Basit described Pakistan as a great blessing from God, where citizens enjoy various freedoms. He underscored the importance of maintaining peace in the country, asserting that neither the constitution, nor Islamic law, nor the country’s religious leaders condone terrorism or rebellion against the state. He urged Muslims to stand by the state, remain steadfast in their commitment to peace, and refrain from supporting those who spread insecurity and terrorism.
The statements collectively convey a message emphasizing the crucial role of cooperation and unity with the state in building a peaceful and prosperous society. This, the scholars argue, is not only a constitutional and national duty but also a fundamental tenet of Islamic teachings.
