The Pakistan Cricket Board (PCB) chairman, Mohsin Naqvi, announced today that the remaining eight matches of the HBL Pakistan Super League (PSL) will resume on May 17. The final match is scheduled for May 25.
The league was initially relocated to the UAE and then postponed following a recent Indian drone incident near the Rawalpindi Cricket Stadium. Mr. Naqvi stated on X that the PSL will pick up where it left off, expressing a desire to “unite and celebrate the spirit of cricket.”
Reports indicate that PSL franchises have contacted players who were flown out of the country last week amid escalating tensions with India, urging their return following a ceasefire agreement. The franchises are currently negotiating with foreign players regarding their availability for the proposed May 17-25 timeframe, with Rawalpindi as the intended venue. The PCB will finalize and announce the schedule once player availability is confirmed and receives approval from Chairman Naqvi.
The PCB is optimistic about the foreign players’ return, given the absence of international cricket during the proposed dates. However, there are reports that Australian players may be hesitant to return to either Pakistan or India, given that India’s IPL tournament was also suspended due to the conflict.
