Air Vice Marshal Aurangzeb Ahmed has been seen briefing the country on how PAF conducted its air operations, downing at least six Indian planes. Here is a look at AVM Aurangzeb Ahmed’s career.
AVM Aurangzeb Ahmed began his distinguished career in the PAF in December 1992, receiving his commission in the General Duty (Pilot) branch. His career has been marked by significant operational command experience, including leading a Fighter Squadron and an Operational Air Base. He has also served in key strategic roles, notably as Assistant Chief of the Air Staff (Operational Requirements & Development) at Air Headquarters in Islamabad.
His academic achievements are equally impressive. He holds Master’s degrees in Military Arts from a university in China and in National Security & War Studies from the National Defence University in Islamabad. Furthermore, he has contributed to the education of future military leaders as Directing Staff and faculty member at the National Defence University.
Air Vice Marshal Ahmed’s experience extends beyond Pakistan’s borders. He served as Contingent Commander of a Pakistan Aeronautical Complex team in Saudi Arabia, demonstrating his leadership abilities in international settings. His contributions to the PAF also include serving as Director General of Public Relations (DG PR) and Director General of Warfare & Strategy. Currently, he holds the significant position of Deputy Chief of the Air Staff (Operations) at Air Headquarters.
His service has been recognized with the award of the Sitara-i-Imtiaz (Military), in recognition of exceptional contributions to the Pakistan Air Force.
