An attack on a polio team in Balochistan by unknown men killed two Levies officials on Wednesday.

According to reports, the polio team was in Killi Teri, Mastung, when it came under attack from unknown men. The firing killed a Levies official on the spot while seriously injuring another.

The injured official was shifted to Shaheed Nawab Ghous Buksh Memorial Hospital Mastung, where he succumbed to his injuries.

Security forces have set up a cordon in the area to apprehend the terrorists.

The attack comes in the middle of a seven-day polio vaccination campaign being conducted across the country. The country has already reported six cases of the virus in the ongoing year.

Pakistan and Afghanistan are the only countries in the world where the crippling disease has not been completely eradicated. In addition to vaccine hesitancy due to traditional and religious factors, the vaccination drives have also been hampered by security issues.
