Police repel attack on checkpost in Shangla

A terrorist attack on a checkpost in Shangla, Khyber Pakhtunkhwa, was successfully foiled by police.

According to a police statement, the Shekolai police checkpost, in the jurisdiction of Chagla Police Station, in Shangla was attacked by terrorists using heavy weaponry.

There were ‘seven to nine’ policemen at the checkpost who responded strongly and forced the attackers to flee. The attack lasted around four hours and a contingent from Aloch Police Station was also deputed to assist the besieged policemen.

However, the use of heavy weapons caused severe damage to the checkpost’s structure.

The police statement said that the attack was carried out by FItna Al-Khwarij, the name used by the government to refer to the Tehreek-e-Taliban Pakistan since last year.

A total of 152 people including police officials, security forces personnel and civilians lost their lives in terrorist attacks in the first three months of the year. In response, security forces killed 158 terrorists in KP alone.
