The Pakistan Meteorological Department (PMD) has issued a nationwide alert predicting heavy rainfall across the country over the next two days. The warning specifically targets Khyber Pakhtunkhwa, northeastern Punjab, Azad Kashmir, and parts of Balochistan.

The monsoon season, crucial for agriculture and water replenishment, has already claimed at least 81 lives across the country since June 26. This, coupled with the PMD’s forecast, has prompted Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif to order the National Disaster Management Authority (NDMA) to prepare for potential emergencies and possible flooding.

The PMD’s latest weather update forecasts continued monsoon rains in upper parts of the country until July 10th. Heavy rainfall is expected in several regions, including Kashmir, northeastern Punjab, the Potohar region, and northeastern and southern Balochistan. Low-lying areas in numerous cities, including Islamabad, Rawalpindi, Lahore, and Peshawar, are at risk of submersion. Islamabad and surrounding areas are expected to experience heavy downpours with strong winds and thunderstorms. Karachi and other coastal areas of Sindh may see light rain or drizzle.

The PMD has issued specific flood warnings for numerous districts in Khyber Pakhtunkhwa, Punjab, and Balochistan, as well as for the Galliyat region and Azad Kashmir. Landslides are also a significant concern, particularly in the mountainous areas. The department urges the public to exercise caution and remain informed of weather updates.
