Pakistan Meteorological Department has forecast more rains across Pakistan from Monday as the death toll from the devastating monsoon season reached 301.
The death toll includes 141 children while 759 people have been injured across the province.
Punjab has been hit the hardest with 162 deaths, followed by Khyber Pakhtunkhwa (71), Sindh (28), Balochistan (20), Gilgit Baltistan (10), Islamabad (8) and Azad Kashmir (2).
Devastating flash floods and torrential rains that began on June 26 have ravaged several regions of Pakistan, causing widespread destruction and displacement. A total of 1,676 homes have been affected, with 562 completely destroyed and 1,114 sustaining partial damage. The flooding also resulted in the loss of 428 livestock.
The National Disaster Management Authority (NDMA) has responded with 223 extensive rescue operations, evacuating 2,880 people. Over 13,466 relief items, including tents, food, blankets, and medical supplies, have been distributed to affected communities. Seventy-one medical camps have been established, providing treatment to 577 individuals. Joint relief efforts are ongoing in collaboration with provincial and federal agencies.
Adding to the crisis, the PMD has issued a warning of widespread heavy rains and potential flash floods across much of the northern and central regions, including Azad Jammu and Kashmir and Gilgit Baltistan, from August 4th to 7th. This new monsoon spell threatens to further exacerbate the already dire situation.
