PM throws weight behind armed forces in ISI visit

Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif and senior members of the federal cabinet visited the headquarters of the Inter-Services Intelligence, the country’s premier intelligence agency, on Tuesday. The leaders reaffirmed that Pakistan will be defended against any aggression at all costs.

According to a statement from the Prime Minister’s Office, PM Shehbaz was accompanied by Foreign Minister Ishaq Dar and Defence Minister Khawaja Asif. Photos issued by the PMO showed Army Chief Asim Munir, Naval Chief Admiral Naveed Ashraf, and Air Chief ACM Zaheer Ahmed Baber Sidhu in the meeting as well. DG ISI Asim Malik and DG ISRP Ahmed Sharif Chaudhry were also present.

“The visit entailed a detailed briefing on the prevailing security environment, with a particular focus on preparedness for conventional threat in the light of India’s increasingly aggressive and provocative posture along Pakistan’s Eastern border,” PMO said. It added that the PM was apprised by regional security developments and the evolving threat matrix, including conventional military options, hybrid warfare tactics, and terrorist proxies.

The PM emphasized that heightened national vigilance and seamless cooperation among security agencies was needed to navigate the current tensions with India.

“Pakistan Army is one of the most professional and disciplined force in the world,” PM Shehbaz said, adding that the nation was standing behind the armed forces.

Tensions have been heightened between Pakistan and India since the Pahalgam attack which killed 26 tourists. India has given its forces operational freedom while Pakistan has carried out massive military exercises and test launched multiple missile systems.
