Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif visited Bahrain for two days and promised that Pakistan would work hard to make its relationship with the Kingdom even stronger. He stressed that their bond is based on shared faith and mutual respect. During his visit, the Prime Minister met with King Hamad bin Isa Al Khalifa in Manama and confirmed the strong, long-standing friendship between the two countries, according to the PM Office. The visit’s goal is to build a “results-oriented and strategic partnership.”
The Prime Minister emphasized the importance of growing economic ties and increasing trade and investment. He believes that the existing trade, which is more than $550 million, can rise to $1 billion. This growth is expected to be helped by the Pakistan-GCC Free Trade Agreement, which is close to being finalized. PM Sharif also asked investors from Bahrain to look into new business opportunities in Pakistan through the Special Investment Facilitation Council (SIFC) in areas like food, technology, construction, and tourism.
The two nations also agreed to strengthen their long-term defence partnership. They decided to work more closely together on training, logistics, providing personnel, and producing defence equipment. They acknowledged the good progress in their overall relationship and agreed to improve cooperation in political, economic, defence, and cultural areas to benefit both countries.
PM Sharif thanked Bahrain for supporting the over 150,000 Pakistanis who live there and expressed gratitude to the King for pardoning Pakistani prisoners. Later, the Prime Minister met with Crown Prince Salman bin Hamad Al Khalifa. They were confident that their talks would lead to real, positive actions that would improve the Pakistan-Bahrain relationship in all important areas, including security and ties between their people.
Important international matters were also discussed, including the ongoing situation in Gaza. Both leaders agreed that the people of Gaza, who have suffered for many years, deserve peace and stability. Additionally, PM Shehbaz congratulated Bahrain for winning a temporary seat on the UN Security Council for 2026-27 and offered Pakistan’s support for working closely with them during that time.
The Prime Minister received a very warm welcome upon arriving at the Manama airport from the Crown Prince, the Deputy Prime Minister, and other senior Bahraini officials. The Pakistani group included Deputy PM and Foreign Minister Ishaq Dar and other key ministers. This visit is expected to make the traditional friendship stronger, find new ways to cooperate, and deepen the connections between the people of Pakistan and Bahrain.
