Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif has left for a two-day official visit to Azerbaijan from November 7 to 8 to participate in the fifth anniversary celebrations of Victory Day. According to a statement from Pakistan’s Foreign Office, the visit comes at the invitation of Azerbaijani President Ilham Aliyev, and the prime minister will attend the official commemorative events being held in Baku.

During his stay, Prime Minister Shehbaz is expected to hold a detailed meeting with President Ilham Aliyev to review the overall state of bilateral relations. The two leaders will explore new opportunities to enhance collaboration in multiple areas, including trade, investment, energy, defence, education, and regional connectivity, the Foreign Office said in its statement.

Pakistan and Azerbaijan share a deep and historic bond, founded on common faith, cultural heritage, and mutual trust. The two nations also work closely in various regional and international platforms, such as the Organisation of Islamic Cooperation (OIC), the Economic Cooperation Organisation (ECO), and the United Nations (UN), reflecting their continued cooperation and shared vision for regional peace and development.

According to the Foreign Office, the visit will reaffirm Pakistan’s strong support for Azerbaijan’s sovereignty and territorial integrity and further reinforce the strategic partnership between the two countries. This marks Prime Minister Shehbaz’s third visit to Azerbaijan in 2025, following his official visit in February and participation in the 17th ECO Summit held in Khankendi from July 3 to 4. On that occasion, he also met President Aliyev, with both leaders reaffirming that consistent engagement between their governments has greatly strengthened bilateral ties.
