The Punjab Provincial Disaster Management Authority (PDMA) has issued a warning of potential urban flooding in Lahore, Rawalpindi, and Gujranwala following heavy rainfall across the province.

The warning comes as a rain emergency has been declared in Rawalpindi, with over 80 millimeters of rain recorded in the city, and 90 millimeters in Islamabad’s Saidpur area. Golra and Bokra experienced 30mm and 32mm respectively.

The PDMA director-general anticipates further heavy rains in several cities, including Kasur, Sheikhupura, and Sialkot, within the next 24 hours. Flooding is also expected along the Chenab, Jhelum, and Ravi rivers. The heavy monsoon rains are expected to continue until July 31.

This warning follows a period of intense monsoon activity across Pakistan, resulting in flash floods and landslides that have claimed at least 279 lives. Punjab has been the hardest hit, with over 150 deaths and 530 injuries.

Khyber Pakhtunkhwa has reported at least 64 deaths and 80 injuries, Sindh 25 deaths and 40 injuries, and Balochistan 20 deaths and 4 injuries. The Pakistan Meteorological Department (PMD) has forecast heavy rains until July 31.
