The Provincial Disaster Management Authority (PDMA) has issued a high-level flood alert for the Ravi, Sutlej, and Chenab rivers in Pakistan, warning of potentially extreme flooding until September 5.
According to sources, high-level flooding is already persisting at Ganda Singh. Further rainfall is predicted in the upper reaches of these rivers until September 3rd, increasing the risk of urban flooding in Lahore, Gujranwala, and Gujrat.
The Chenab River continues to cause significant devastation. Floodwaters, after submerging hundreds of settlements, have reached Jhang, inundating 200 villages. Water levels are steadily rising near Muzaffargarh.
Dozens of villages are underwater in the Bhawana tehsil of Chiniot, crops are submerged in Sheikhupura, and a massive water flow of 800,000 cusecs is passing through the Trimmu Headworks, threatening over 400 villages.
The situation is critical in nine districts of Punjab due to concerns about water aggression from India. Increased water flow in the Sutlej River threatens Qasoor, Okara, Bahawalnagar, and Pakpatan.The PDMA warns that the situation could worsen in Vehari, Lodhran, Bahawalpur, and Multan.
After the release of water at Nanakot, the floodwaters are moving towards Jassar and Shorkot.Water levels have further risen at Mari Patan on the Ravi River. Significant flooding is also reported near Head Balloki and Sudhnai.
The collapse of a dam in Aurangabad, Sahiwal, has submerged dozens of villages. The PDMA urges residents in affected areas to take necessary precautions and follow official instructions.
