Pakistan’s Federal Interior Minister Mohsin Naqvi visited the Directorate General of Immigration and Passports (DGIP) today and chaired a high-level meeting focusing on enhanced passport security and the crackdown on illegal immigration.
The meeting, attended by key officials including Minister of State for Interior Talal Chaudhry, Secretary Interior Muhammad Khurram Agha, DG FIA Rifat Mukhtar Raja, and DG Passport Mustafa Jamal Qazi, centered on the implementation of new passport requirements.
Naqvi emphasized the urgent need to finalize all legal procedures related to these new requirements, stating they will act as a deterrent against begging and illegal emigration. Chaudhry added that the measures will project a positive image of Pakistan internationally.
The minister also stressed the complete implementation of a directive to block the passports of deported individuals. During his visit, Naqvi inspected newly installed passport printing machinery – six MRP and two e-passport machines – and met with a German technical team responsible for their installation. He highlighted the machines’ role in boosting passport production and expediting issuance for citizens.
DG Passport Mustafa Jamal Qazi briefed the minister on ongoing improvements, including the upcoming launch of a citizen-friendly mobile application for passport-related services.
