Pakistan Supports UN Resolution to Secure Peace in Gaza

The United Nations Security Council on Monday overwhelmingly approved a U.S. draft resolution that endorses President Donald Trump’s plan for a ceasefire in Gaza and authorizes the deployment of an International Stabilization Force (ISF). The force will be responsible for demilitarizing Gaza and dismantling military infrastructure.

Thirteen members, including Pakistan, voted in favour of the resolution, while Russia and China abstained from voting.

The resolution supports Trump’s 20-point plan, which includes establishing an interim authority called the “Board of Peace” to oversee Gaza’s reconstruction and economic recovery.

Pakistan voted in favour of the resolution, stating that its main goal is to immediately stop the bloodshed in Gaza, maintain the ceasefire, and ensure the full withdrawal of Israeli forces.

Pakistan’s Permanent Representative to the UN, Ambassador Asim Iftikhar Ahmad, said the vote reflected the position of Palestinians and Arab countries. Its purpose is to ensure urgent humanitarian aid and provide a credible path toward the creation of a Palestinian state.

Ambassador Ahmad emphasized that any peace efforts should lead to a sovereign, independent, and contiguous Palestinian state with Jerusalem (Al-Quds) as its capital, based on the 1967 borders.

He also called for further clarity on key issues, including a clear political roadmap for the Palestinian state and the central role of the Palestinian Authority in governance and reconstruction. He warned that the ISF’s mandate would only be effective after the full withdrawal of Israeli forces.

Hamas Reaction

Hamas rejected the resolution, saying it failed to meet the rights and demands of the Palestinian people. The group criticized the attempt to impose an international “trusteeship,” arguing that giving the ISF responsibility for disarming resistance would make it a party to the conflict, siding with the occupying power.
