Pakistan is observing its 60th Defence Day on September 6th, 2025, commemorating the 1965 war with India. The nation’s top military and civilian leadership paid tribute to the soldiers and martyrs who fought in the conflict.
A 31-gun salute in Islamabad and 21-gun salutes in provincial capitals marked the beginning of the commemorations. Special prayers were offered for the country’s progress and the independence of Indian-occupied Jammu and Kashmir.
In a statement, the military’s media wing highlighted the courage and sacrifice of Pakistani soldiers in 1965, emphasizing their resilience against a numerically and technologically superior enemy. The statement lauded the armed forces’ continued commitment to defending the nation against all threats, including terrorism, and pledged support to those affected by recent floods. The day was observed with “utmost humility” in light of the flood situation.
Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif and President Asif Ali Zardari issued separate messages, reiterating Pakistan’s commitment to its sovereignty and defense. They recalled the 1965 war and praised the armed forces’ role in thwarting enemy aggression. PM Sharif also lauded the recent Operation Bunyanum Marsoos and expressed solidarity with the people of occupied Kashmir and Palestine.
