The Ministry of Foreign Affairs expresses concern over after 26 tourists were killed in Indian Occupied Kashmir.
“We are concerned at the loss of tourists’ lives in an attack in Anantnag district of Indian Illegally Occupied Jammu and Kashmir,” MoFA said.
“We extend our condolences to the near ones of the deceased and wish the injured a speedy recovery,” MoFA added.
The attack occurred in Pahalgam, a popular tourist destination in the Anantnag district in Indian Occupied Kashmir. The area is 90 km away from Srinagar and is only accessible by horseback or foot.
At least 26 tourists were killed in the firing, according to AFP. According to The Hindu, those killed in the attack include at least one foreigner and an officer of the Indian Navy as well.
The attack took place while US Vice President JD Vance is in India on a four-day visit. It also came on the day when Indian Prime Minister Narendra Modi arrived in Saudi Arabia. However, Modi cut short the visit and held a meeting with Indian foreign minister and national security advisor.
“Those behind this heinous act will be brought to justice … They will not be spared!” Modi said in a statement.
The Indian government has not announced an investigation or laid the blame at anyone so far. However, the Indian media has drummed up a frenzy claiming that the attack is linked to Pakistan. A social media campaign has also accompanied the Indian media’s campaign. No evidence to substantiate the claim has been presented.
