Pakistan has vehemently rejected what it called “provocative and inflammatory assertions” made by the Indian Prime Minister in a recent address, accusing him of spreading misinformation and escalating tensions in the region.
In a press release issued on Tuesday, the Ministry of Foreign Affairs stated: “At a time when international efforts are being made for regional peace and stability, this statement represents a dangerous escalation rooted in misinformation, political opportunism, and a blatant disregard for international law.”
The statement further criticized the Indian Prime Minister’s portrayal of Pakistan’s recent ceasefire acceptance as a sign of “despair and frustration,” calling it “another blatant lie.” Pakistan emphasized its commitment to the ceasefire, facilitated by several friendly nations, and its dedication to de-escalation and regional stability.
The Ministry accused India of exploiting the Pahalgam attack “without credible evidence” to justify military adventurism and deflect attention from internal issues.
“The portrayal of Pakistan as seeking a ceasefire in ‘despair and frustration’ is yet another blatant lie,” the statement read.
It further added that India is using the attack to “malign Pakistan, justify military adventurism by contriving a casus belli, serve domestic political objectives, deflect attention from rising communal tensions, human rights violations in Indian Illegally Occupied Jammu and Kashmir, and reinforce a manufactured narrative of a perpetual external threat.”
Pakistan condemned India’s actions following the alleged attack, stating that India’s response “recklessly provoked the situation further by targeting Pakistan’s military bases, risking an uncontrollable escalatory spiral.”
The Ministry described India’s actions as setting “a dangerous precedent for aggression, dragging the entire region to the brink of disaster,” characterizing India as a “revisionist actor that seeks to upend strategic stability in South Asia without regard for consequences.”
The statement strongly rejected India’s justification of its actions, asserting that “the ‘normal’ remains that no one will be allowed to challenge the principles and purposes of the UN Charter, as amply demonstrated by Pakistan in resolutely defending its sovereignty, territorial integrity, as well as the security of its people.” Pakistan reiterated its right to self-defense, emphasizing that its response was “calibrated and targeted against military installations,” and highlighting its military capabilities.
The Ministry also criticized India’s disregard for the Indus Water Treaty (IWT), stating that Pakistan “will take all necessary measures to preserve its rights under the Treaty.” It further accused India of sponsoring terrorism in Pakistan and reiterated its support for a peaceful resolution of the Jammu and Kashmir dispute in accordance with UN Security Council resolutions and the aspirations of the Kashmiri people, including support for President Trump’s past efforts towards a resolution.
“In this era, peace is the true strength. The world is not served by theatrical militarism and grandstanding but by mature leadership, regional cooperation, and respect for international norms. Any future aggression will also be met with full resolve. We hope India will prioritize regional stability and the well-being of its citizens over the narrow, politically motivated jingoism,” MoFA said.
