Pakistan and Türkiye held the second round of their Counter-Terrorism Consultations in Islamabad on February 10, reaffirming their commitment to combating terrorism.
According to a statement from the Ministry of Foreign Affairs, the Pakistani delegation, led by Director General for Counter Terrorism Abdul Hameed, and the Turkish delegation, headed by Ambassador Kenan Yilmaz, Director General for Intelligence and Security, discussed the evolving global and regional terrorism landscape.
Both sides exchanged views on the threats posed by terrorist groups and shared best practices in counter-terrorism strategies.
The MoFA statement added that both sides emphasized the need for the international community to address the root causes of terrorism, particularly long-standing conflicts. A commitment was made to continue their close collaboration and mutual learning.
The consultations focused on enhancing cooperation in several key areas, including countering the financing of terrorism, preventing the misuse of the internet for terrorist purposes, and preventing radicalization.
The meeting follows the first round of talks held in Ankara on May 31, 2019 where Pakistan was represented by Director General (Counter Terrorism) Ahmad Farooq and the Turkish side was headed by Director General for Research and Security, Ambassador Aylin Tashan. The next round of consultations will be held in Ankara at a mutually agreed upon date.
