Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif and Azerbaijani President Ilham Aliyev met in Lachin on Tuesday, reaffirming their commitment to expanding their strategic partnership. The meeting, which took place on Azerbaijan’s Independence Day and on the eve of a Pakistan-Azerbaijan-Turkey trilateral summit, focused on strengthening bilateral relations across various sectors.
The two leaders expressed satisfaction with the progress in political, economic, defense, and cultural cooperation. They pledged to diversify their strategic partnership through increased investment in mutually beneficial projects. The Azerbaijani side agreed to hold delegation-level talks soon to explore these opportunities.
Prime Minister Sharif expressed gratitude for Azerbaijan’s support during the recent conflict with India, noting the public expressions of solidarity from both the Azerbaijani leadership and its people. He highlighted the Azerbaijani people’s celebration of Pakistan’s success in the recent conflict.
The meeting concluded with both leaders reiterating their commitment to deepening the Pakistan-Azerbaijan partnership and working together to advance shared objectives at both the bilateral and regional levels. Several high-ranking Pakistani officials, including FM Ishaq Dar accompanied Prime Minister Sharif to the meeting.
