Pakistan and the United Kingdom concluded the second round of their Counter-Terrorism Dialogue in London on February 18, 2025. The two-day meeting focused on a range of issues related to combating terrorism, with a particular emphasis on the threat posed by Afghanistan.
The Pakistani delegation, led by Abdul Hameed, Director General for Counter Terrorism at the Ministry of Foreign Affairs, and the UK delegation, headed by Kitty Jenkins, Joint Director for National Security at the Foreign, Commonwealth and Development Office, reviewed the global and regional security landscape.
According to a statement from the Ministry of Foreign Affairs, discussions centred on the assessment of terrorist threats, particularly those emanating from Afghanistan, in light of recent international reports.
The dialogue encompassed a wide spectrum of counter-terrorism strategies and best practices. Both sides exchanged information and expertise in areas such as law enforcement, security, criminal justice, the rule of law, countering the financing of terrorism, and capacity building to address emerging terrorist trends. The talks also explored avenues for enhanced bilateral cooperation and new collaborative opportunities in counter-terrorism efforts.
The meeting ended with an agreement to hold the next round of the Pakistan-UK Counter-Terrorism Dialogue in Islamabad in 2026, with specific dates to be determined mutually.
Earlier this month, Pakistan also held a round of counter-terrorism talks with Turkiye, where both sides agreed to increase cooperation and exchange best practices.
