Negotiations are underway between both parties involved in the relocation of a madrassah on Murree Road in Islamabad.
The discussions involve Maulana Ghafoor Haidri and other religious scholars on one side, and the Minister of State for Interior, the Islamabad Commissioner, the Islamabad Inspector General of Police, and the Islamabad Deputy Commissioner on the other.
Talks took place on Sunday night and continued throughout Monday, focusing on a detailed exchange of views regarding the religious scholars’ demands and concerns. It has been decided that further consultation with the Federal Interior Minister is necessary to finalize the matter, and an additional 48 hours has been requested to achieve progress.
Both parties have agreed to resolve the madrassah relocation issue amicably, taking into account religious, legal, and all relevant aspects. Both sides have committed to refraining from any unilateral action during this period.
The seminary, named Masjid-e-Madni, had been demolished by Capital Development Authority officials after shifting the students and property to a purpose-built facility in Margalla Town.
According to CDA sources, the relocation had been negotiated with the seminary’s administration in January 2025. The new facility The new facility, built at a cost of over Rs 40 million, includes a prayer hall, washing areas, halls, and tuff paver flooring.
Officials had also cautioned against attempts to politicise the matter, warning of tensions.
