Federal Interior Minister Mohsin Naqvi concluded a US visit focused on strengthening bilateral relations with the United States, while the Ministry of Foreign Affairs moved to quash speculation regarding meetings with anti-China groups.

According to a statement detailing the trip, Minister Naqvi met with US Congressman Alexander Green, a key member of the House Financial Services Committee, in Houston, Texas. According to a press release from Naqvi’s office, the meeting covered a range of topics including cross-border terrorism emanating from Afghanistan, Pakistan-US relations, and the situation in Palestine.

Naqvi expressed gratitude for Green’s support for Pakistan following recent natural disasters. Congressman Green, who has visited Pakistan four times previously to offer aid, indicated plans for a future visit. The meeting was also attended by Pakistan’s Consul General in Houston and a Pakistani-American businessman.

Naqvi added that Pak-US relations will strengthen further in coming days.

However, the visit has been overshadowed by media reports alleging meetings between Naqvi and anti-China groups. In response, the spokesperson for Pakistan’s Ministry of Foreign Affairs issued a statement categorically rejecting these allegations as “baseless and unfounded”.

The spokesperson reaffirmed Pakistan’s unwavering commitment to the One-China policy, describing China as Pakistan’s “all-weather strategic partner” and emphasizing the strong bonds of mutual trust and shared values between the two nations. The statement underscored Pakistan’s consistent adherence to the One-China policy as a cornerstone of its foreign policy.
