Mobile data services have begun to be restored in various cities across Baluchistan province following an order from the Baluchistan High Court. The court directed the immediate restoration of internet services in areas where security concerns were not deemed paramount. Mobile internet services have been reinstated in parts of Pishin, Chaman, and Quetta.

A division bench comprising Chief Justice Rozi Khan Barech and Justice Sardar Ahmed Halimi heard a petition challenging the suspension of mobile internet services last week. The Advocate General of Baluchistan, the Additional Attorney General, and officials from the Home Department appeared before the court.

During the hearing, the Advocate General informed the court that mobile services were temporarily suspended due to security concerns related to Muharram processions and that the government had decided to keep mobile data shut down until August 31, 2025.

The court questioned whether security threats existed throughout Baluchistan. The Advocate General and Additional Chief Secretary responded that concerns were limited to specific areas. The court issued a strong order mandating the immediate restoration of mobile phone networks and data services in areas where security concerns were not present. The court also directed the Baluchistan government to reconsider its decision to maintain the shutdown until August 31st.

The case will be heard again on Thursday, August 21, 2025.
