A grand peace jirga was held in Karak district on Sunday to address the issue terrorism plaguing the area. The event saw a large turnout, including former and current members of the provincial assembly, leaders from various political parties, district presidents, former Senator Mushtaq Ahmed Khan, and a significant number of local residents.  Participants, transcending their political affiliations, displayed white flags as a symbol of unity and peace.

Following the jirga, a large rally was held from Jail Chowk to Saddam Chowk, demonstrating public solidarity against terrorism and reinforcing the commitment to establishing peace.

Addressing the gathering, Jamaat-e-Islami leader and former Senator Mushtaq Ahmed Khan emphasized the state’s primary responsibility to ensure the safety and security of every Pakistani citizen. He highlighted the sacrifices made by the Khattak tribe across Pakistan in protecting the nation and stressed the urgent need to establish lasting peace.

Khan asserted that the people of Karak stand united against unrest and will not tolerate it in their region.  He questioned the effectiveness of state institutions, noting that despite numerous operations, terrorism and instability persist.

He declared that instability in Khattak territory is unacceptable and vowed to take all possible measures to combat it.  He urged state institutions to fulfil their responsibilities and take immediate and effective steps to ensure lasting peace in the area.

The jirga and subsequent rally conveyed a strong message that the people of Karak are united in their pursuit of peace and stability in their region. Leaders from all political parties underscored the need for collective efforts to rid Karak of terrorism.

Another jirga in Karak earlier this month had issued an ultimatum to armed people in the area to leave immediately or face an operation from tribal militia. The jirga had also called upon authorities to take decisive measures against terrorists.
