A new report has revealed that March 2025 was the second deadliest month in terms of terrorism related fatalities in Pakistan in the last decade.
The report, published by Pakistan Institute for Conflict and Security Studies, revealed that a total of 105 militant attacks were reported across the country in March.
The attacks led to the loss of 73 security forces personnel and 67 civilians. In addition to the deaths, 129 security personnel and 129 civilians were injured in the attacks as well.
In response, security forces also intensified their operations against terrorists, killing 83 militants and injuring another four. However, the operations also resulted in the loss of 24 lives including 13 security personnel and 11 civilians.
All in all, a total of 171 terrorists were killed in March while 86 security officials and 78 civilians lost their lives.
The numbers mean that the overall fatalities were the highest in a single month since August 2015. In terms of security forces losses, the month was the worst since January 2023.
The report carries another disturbing revelation: suicide bombings in the country have surge to their highest level in recent months. There was a total of six suicide bombings in the month, with Khyber Pakhtunkhwa and Balochistan each witnessing three. One of these occurred in the formal Federally Administered Tribal Areas.
The two provinces accounted for the most deaths by terrorism. A total of 49 security personnel and 34 civilians were killed in KP while 40 civilians and 37 security officials were killed in Balochistan.
Likewise, the two provinces also accounted for the highest number of terrorists killed in the country. A total of 45 terrorists were killed in Balochistan while 123 were killed in KP.
A total of seven terrorist attacks were reported in Punjab in the last month while three were reported in Sindh.
