Pakistan’s list of proscribed organisations will be updated with help of the United States government, a cabinet member said on Sunday.

State Minister for Law and Justice Barrister Aqeel told Dawn News TV on Sunday the list is likely to be updated with input from the State Department.

He added that the government is already in the process of updating its list of banned organisations and the State Department is likely to do the same. Then, Aqeel said, people affiliated with the proscribed organisations could face action including travel bans or could even have their visas revoked.

Meanwhile, the Punjab Home Department has released a list of banned organizations and unregistered charitable organizations. Citizens have been urged to refrain from donating to unregistered or banned charitable organizations. Assisting banned organizations is a crime under the Anti-Terrorism Act of 1997.

A spokesperson for the Punjab Home Department stated that those who aid organizations involved in terrorism or anti-state activities will face legal consequences. Registration with the Punjab Charity Commission is mandatory for all charitable organizations in Punjab. The spokesman also called upon citizens to donate Zakat, charity, and donations only to organizations registered with the Punjab Charity Commission. The authenticity of registered organizations can be verified using the QR code on their certificates.

The spokesperson emphasized the importance of ensuring that donations reach the rightful recipients instead of terrorists. Details of registered organizations can be found on the Charity Commission’s website. Citizens can also report organizations involved in fraud, terrorism, anti-state activities, or personal gain to the Home Department.  Reports of banned organizations soliciting donations can be made to the toll-free number 080011111 or helpline numbers 04299214871 and 04299214872.
