Police and security forces in Peshawar, the capital of Khyber Pakhtunkhwa, carried out major operations against crime and terrorism this year. As a result, a large quantity of weapons was seized and several most-wanted militants were killed.
According to a report issued by the City Police Officer (CPO), police conducted 650 operations in Peshawar and its surrounding areas this year. Peshawar police and security forces jointly carried out 21 search operations, while police conducted 42 intelligence-based operations across the district.
The report states that during various actions this year, police recovered a huge cache of illegal weapons. These included 719 Kalashnikovs, 119 rifles, 926 shotguns, 11,203 pistols, and 26 hand grenades.
Police said that in operations against suspects involved in robberies, 20 robbers were killed in encounters. Another 225 were injured during shootouts, while 23 suspects were arrested unharmed.
According to CPO records, counter-terrorism operations in Khyber Pakhtunkhwa produced significant results this year. The Counter Terrorism Department (CTD) and security forces killed a total of 955 militants. Of these, police and CTD killed 423 militants, while security forces killed 532 more.
During these operations, police and CTD also killed 33 key militant commanders. A large quantity of weapons and ammunition was recovered from them. The militants killed were linked to the regions of Waziristan and Bannu.
Overall, these successful operations by police and security forces mark an important step toward restoring peace and reducing crime across the province.
