Pakistan has reported two additional polio cases, bringing the total number of cases for 2025 to 26. Both cases involve young girls, one from North Waziristan and the other from Lakki Marwat, both located in southern Khyber Pakhtunkhwa province.

According to an official at the Regional Reference Laboratory for Polio Eradication at the National Institute of Health (NIH), this brings the total breakdown to 18 cases in Khyber Pakhtunkhwa, six in Sindh, one in Punjab, and one in Gilgit-Baltistan.

The NIH also reported that 75 out of 126 environmental samples (sewage) collected from 87 districts across the country in August tested negative for the poliovirus. A polio vaccination campaign is currently underway in southern Khyber Pakhtunkhwa, running from September 15th to 18th. The continued emergence of polio cases highlights the ongoing challenges in eradicating the disease in Pakistan.
