Efforts are underway to enhance the capacity of the Khyber Pakhtunkhwa (KP) Police and bring it in line with modern-day policing standards. As part of this initiative, Inspector General of Police (IGP) Zulfiqar Hameed handed over advanced technological equipment to officials during a special ceremony held at the Central Police Office in Peshawar.

The IGP distributed 147 SKUA binoculars and 363 TWS Hawk binoculars equipped with thermal technology, along with weapon-mounted sights, to police units across all districts of the province. Additionally, 10 state-of-the-art M249 heavy machine guns and 4 modern anti-drone guns were also provided to strengthen security forces in key areas.

Significant Boost in Night Surveillance Capability
The newly provided thermal binoculars and weapon sights will greatly enhance the police’s ability to monitor and respond during nighttime operations. These devices can detect human movement from long distances and identify vehicles up to four kilometres away in complete darkness, ensuring that no suspicious movement goes undetected.

Deployment of Anti-Drone and Heavy Machine Guns
The modern EMG-300 anti-drone guns have been supplied to police in North Waziristan, Bajaur, and Bannu, enabling them to effectively counter possible drone threats from terrorists. Meanwhile, the M249 heavy machine guns were handed over to the Rapid Response Force (RRF) and Elite Force units to strengthen their combat readiness during anti-terror operations.

Speaking at the event, IGP Zulfiqar Hameed said that the KP Police are being equipped to effectively counter the evolving tactics of terrorists. He added that the thermal binoculars and sights will help police detect enemy positions, prevent surprise attacks, and operate more accurately in darkness. The IGP emphasized that these measures have made the KP Police stronger and more capable, and that their operations against terrorism are being conducted with even greater dedication and efficiency.
