A new report has revealed the heavy number of terrorist attacks being carried out against police in Khyber Pakhtunkhwa and the casualties suffered by the force.
The report documents attacks against police officials in the province from January 1 to March 15. It revealed that there have been 68 attacks reported against police officials in the time period.
A total of 26 police officials have been martyred in Khyber Pakhtunkhwa since the new year began, according to the report. Another 30 policemen were injured in the attacks.
Of these attacks, 29 occurred in January, 24 occurred in February while 15 attacks have already taken place in March.
In these attacks, at least 16 police check-posts and seven police stations were attacked by terrorists while nine travelling police parties were also attacked. At least 10 police vehicles were also vandalised or burnt in this time period.
However, the police also responded to the attacks with force, killing 69 terrorists in the same period.
The banned Tehreek-e-Taliban Pakistan has announced the beginning of a new spring offensive claiming to concentrate targets on security forces. However, several attacks in the new year have also led to civilian casualties.
In several places, locals have also come out to support police in fighting off terrorist attacks.
