The 35th meeting of the Khyber Pakhtunkhwa (KP) provincial cabinet, chaired by the Chief Minister Ali Amin Gandapur took place on Friday where it was decided that an all-parties conference will be convened next week to discuss the deteriorating security situation in the province.
Addressing the deteriorating law and order situation in the province, Chief Minister Gandapur announced plans to convene an all-parties conference next week. All political parties will be invited to participate in this conference to formulate a joint strategy for a lasting solution to the issue. Gandapur also highlighted the restoration of peace in Kurram district through the provincial government’s efforts, suggesting that similar consultations with tribal elders and local leaders could be effective in other areas.
The cabinet also deliberated on the Maintenance of Public Order (MPO) Act, deciding to implement reforms to prevent its misuse. A key decision was to make the enforcement of MPOs contingent upon prior approval from the provincial Home Department. Gandapur described the MPO as an act similar to the Frontier Crimes Regulations (FCR), noting its frequent misuse. The Chief Minister emphasized that natural disasters should not be politicized and that KP is prepared to assist other provinces in times of such calamities.
The cabinet approved compensation of Rs5 million per individual for the families of KP martyrs who lost their lives in Indian aggression. Furthermore, the cabinet approved Rs1 crore in aid for the family of Maulana Khanzeb, who was martyred in a terrorist attack.
