Chief Minister of Khyber Pakhtunkhwa, Muhammad Sohail Afridi, has expressed concern over the worsening law and order situation in the province. He has contacted leaders of all major political parties via phone and decided to convene a political jirga to address the issue.
According to a press release from the Chief Minister’s House, CM Afridi spoke individually with key political leaders, including Maulana Fazlur Rehman (JUI-F), Aimal Wali Khan (ANP), Siraj-ul-Haq (JI), Amir Muqam (PML-N), Aftab Ahmad Khan Sherpao (NWP), and Muhammad Ali Shah Bacha (PPP), to review the overall security situation in the province.
Sustainable Peace is the Government’s Top Priority
During the discussions, CM Afridi emphasized that there is no room for compromise on peace, calling stability and security the government’s top priority. He added that to ensure sustainable peace, a joint jirga of all political party leaders will be convened under the provincial assembly’s in-house committee, where parties will try to agree on a common plan of action.
The Chief Minister also highlighted that differences of opinion are part of democracy, but peace is a shared goal for everyone.
The press release further stated that the Speaker of the Provincial Assembly will soon issue formal invitations to all political leaders to participate in the jirga. Given the current political and security challenges, this initiative is being seen as an important step toward bringing stability to the province.
