A suicide bombing near the District Court in Sector G-11, Islamabad, on Tuesday afternoon left at least 12 people dead and 21 others injured.
Initial reports say the attack was carried out by a suicide bomber. The bomber’s head was found at the site, confirming the nature of the attack. The blast caused panic in the area, and many security forces and rescue teams rushed to the scene.
All injured victims were immediately taken to Pakistan Institute of Medical Sciences (PIMS) hospital for treatment. Hospital sources said several of the wounded are in critical condition, so the death toll could rise.
Security officials quickly cordoned off the area and started collecting evidence. Authorities have launched a formal investigation to find out the cause of the attack and identify those responsible.
Federal Interior Minister Mohsin Naqvi stated that the suicide bomber in Islamabad targeted a police vehicle after his initial attempt failed. Mr. Naqvi added that those responsible for the suicide attack will be brought to justice.
